jeremiah barcus, cello
Jeremiah Barcus came to Boston in 2009 from Philadelphia. He is the cellist in the often-touring Videri String Quartet, which combines the fun and joy of video game music with the regard and respect of a classical string quartet. His recorded playing with Videri can be heard in the video games Aragami; Where the Water Tastes Like Wine; and on the animated series RWBY, whose Vol. 3 soundtrack reached No. 1 on iTunes. As an active freelancer, he most recently played Ragtime at the award-winning Company Theater in Norwell, MA. He also regularly
performs with his better half in the classical Barcus-Urayama Duo, who has performed recitals in New England and Japan.
Jeremiah has won competitions both in Boston and his native Philadelphia: he won top prize in NEC’s John Hsu Cello Competition, and the PRYSM Vivaldi Competition. He holds a Bachelor Degree in Cello Performance from New England Conservatory, a Masters Degree in Cello Performance at the Boston Conservatory, and a Graduate Performance Diploma at the
Boston Conservatory at Berklee. Also a coveted cello teacher in Boston, he has or has had students ranging from very beginner to competitors in international competitions. He has given collegiate masterclasses at the University of the Pacific (Stockton, CA), and Boston Conservatory at Berklee (Boston, MA). He has also been invited to give lectures on “The Business of a String Quartet” and “Chamber Music Rehearsal Techniques” at Berklee College of Music (Boston, MA).
Jeremiah is on faculty at the German International School Boston (Allston, MA), Edward Devotion DASEP (Brookline, MA), Key Notes School of Music (Quincy, MA), and served as guest faculty at the New England
Conservatory Preparatory School in 2018. He also actively maintains a vibrant private studio filled with incredible students of all ages, levels, and circumstances.
